First Impression
Walking into Al Solito Posto, you expect a decent house Chianti and a laminated wine list โ what you get instead is Giacomo Conterno and Biondi-Santi staring back at you. For a neighborhood Italian on the western edge of Las Vegas, this list has no business being this good. The Wine Spectator Award of Excellence since 2023 is not a fluke.
Selection Deep Dive
The Italian spine here is genuinely impressive: Barolo from Bruno Giacosa and Giacomo Conterno, Brunello from both Biondi-Santi and Banfi, Sassicaia and Tignanello holding court in the Super Tuscan section, and Amarone rounding out a northern Italian corner that most Strip restaurants would charge a cover charge to enter. California gets its due too โ Ridge and Jordan cover Cabernet, and Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir adds some cooler-climate texture. Chianti Classico Riserva anchors the more accessible end so you're not forced to splurge. The list runs 150โ250 bottles, which is the right size: focused enough to trust, deep enough to explore.
By the Glass
Twelve to twenty options by the glass is a healthy pour program for a neighborhood spot, and the $12โ$22 range keeps things honest without scraping the bottom of the barrel. With two named sommeliers โ Nada Atabani and Chris Mattson โ on staff, you can trust that the glass pours aren't just whatever needs to move before it turns. Ask what's open; these two tend to know.
Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon โ $40-range
Jordan is a reliable, food-friendly California Cab that drinks well above its price point โ especially at a restaurant that could easily charge a 4x markup. At the low end of this list's bottle range, it's the smart move if you want California red without a painful check.
Chianti Classico Riserva
Everyone at the table is eyeing the Tignanello, but a well-chosen Chianti Classico Riserva at this kind of Italian kitchen is the sleeper pick. It's built for food, it's priced to drink, and it'll outlast the Super Tuscans as the meal goes long.
Banfi Brunello di Montalcino
Banfi produces at volume, and while it's not bad, sitting next to Biondi-Santi on the same list makes it look like a placeholder. Spend up to the Biondi-Santi or spend down to the Chianti Riserva โ the Banfi is the middle ground that doesn't quite earn its seat at this table.
Bruno Giacosa Barolo + House pasta
A classic Giacosa Barolo โ structured, tar-and-rose, built for the long game โ is exactly what a rich, slow-cooked pasta sauce calls for. The tannins cut through the fat, the acidity keeps things lively, and you remember why Italian wine and Italian food evolved together in the first place.
๐ฒ The Bottom Line
Al Solito Posto is punching well above its weight class for a Vegas neighborhood Italian โ the producers are real, the sommeliers know their stuff, and the pricing won't make you regret the second bottle. Send a friend here and tell them to ignore the cocktail list for once.
