First Impression
You open the wine list at a casual Greek taverna on Milwaukee Ave and expect maybe a token Assyrtiko and some Malbec filler. What you get instead is 80-plus bottles that read like a love letter to every major Greek wine region. This list has an actual point of view, and it earns the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence it's been holding since 2022.
Selection Deep Dive
Greece runs the whole show here, and that's exactly right. Santorini Assyrtiko from both Domaine Sigalas and Gaia Wines' Thalassitis anchors the whites with serious volcanic-island credibility. The reds go deep into Naoussa and Xinomavro territory โ Boutari, Kir-Yianni, and Alpha Estate are all present, covering the full range from approachable to cellar-worthy. Domaine Gerovassiliou's Malagousia and Tselepos Moschofilero add aromatic texture that most Greek lists completely ignore, and Skouras' Agiorgitiko rounds out the Peloponnese side. There are gaps if you want French or Italian, but that's not a flaw โ it's a choice, and it's the right one for this kitchen.
By the Glass
With 12 to 18 pours on offer, the by-the-glass program is legitimately the strongest reason to come here on a weeknight. You can drink your way through indigenous Greek varieties without committing to a full bottle, which is exactly how you want to explore a region this unfamiliar to most American diners. Rotation details weren't confirmed, but the range tracked to the bottle list, so expect the same quality carry-through.
Tselepos Moschofilero โ $45
Moschofilero is criminally underrated outside Greece โ floral, crisp, lower alcohol โ and at this price point it almost certainly drinks above its tier. Perfect for the table before anyone's committed to a direction.
Domaine Gerovassiliou Malagousia
Most people skip straight to Assyrtiko because it's the Greek white they've heard of. Malagousia is the move for anyone who wants something that hits differently โ aromatic without being sweet, textured without being heavy. Gerovassiliou basically saved this grape from extinction, which is its own conversation starter.
Boutari Naoussa
Boutari is the default Greek red that shows up everywhere โ it's fine, it's consistent, but it's the Kendall-Jackson of Naoussa. With Alpha Estate and Kir-Yianni both on this list, there's no reason to settle for the entry-level option.
Domaine Sigalas Assyrtiko + Grilled Whole Fish
Santorini Assyrtiko and grilled seafood is not a controversial call โ it's just correct. The wine's high acid and saline mineral edge cut through the fat of a whole fish the way nothing else on this list will. Sigalas makes one of the benchmark versions and it's worth every dollar.
๐ฒ The Bottom Line
Andros Taverna isn't trying to be a wine destination โ it's a neighborhood taverna that happens to have built the best Greek wine list in Chicago. If you eat here and order a beer, that's on you.
