First Impression

The wine list here reads like a greatest hits of California Cabernet — Caymus, Silver Oak, Jordan, Stag's Leap all present and accounted for. It's not trying to be adventurous, and honestly at a casual Reno steakhouse, that's probably the right call. The Wine Spectator Award of Excellence (since 2024) signals that someone here actually gives a damn.

Selection Deep Dive

The 150-250 bottle list leans hard into California, and there's no shame in that when you're a steakhouse. You've got the whole Napa Cabernet murderers' row — Beringer Private Reserve, Far Niente, Duckhorn Merlot, Stag's Leap — which covers your bases for red meat pairings without much imagination required. The range skews toward recognizable names over discovery, so if you came hoping to stumble onto a sleeper Sonoma producer, you're out of luck. That said, sommelier Mitchell Penning's fingerprints are on this list, and the Wine Spectator nod confirms it's curated with some intention.

By the Glass

With 12-20 pours available, the by-the-glass program is more generous than most casual steakhouses bother with. Expect the usual California suspects to dominate the pour list — Cabernet and Chardonnay-forward, aimed squarely at the crowd that knows what they like. Rotation appears limited, so don't expect much seasonal swapping.

💰Best Value

Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon — $40

Jordan consistently delivers a polished, food-friendly Alexander Valley Cab that outdrinks its price point. At the lower end of the bottle range here, it's the move if you want quality without going deep into your wallet.

💎Hidden Gem

Duckhorn Merlot

Everyone in the room is ordering Cabernet, which means the Duckhorn Merlot gets overlooked. That's a mistake. It's plush, structured, and handles the Prime Rib just as well as anything on the Cab side of the list — sometimes better.

Skip This

Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon

Caymus is everywhere — every restaurant, every liquor store, every well-meaning gift basket. You're almost certainly paying a steep restaurant markup on a bottle you could grab retail without the drama. Step one shelf to the left and try something else.

🍽️Perfect Pairing

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon + Prime Rib

Stag's Leap brings enough structure and dark fruit to stand up to a thick cut of Prime Rib without steamrolling it. It's a classic California Cab with more elegance than muscle, which keeps the pairing from turning into a tannin arm-wrestling match.

✔️ The Bottom Line

Biggest Little Steakhouse isn't trying to reinvent the wine list — it's serving Reno what Reno wants, with a sommelier on staff and a Wine Spectator credential to back it up. Send your friend here if they drink California Cab with their steak and call it a great night.
