The wine list at Calico reads like a greatest hits album you've heard a hundred times — Whispering Angel, Meiomi, La Marca. It's not offensive, but it's not trying very hard either. For a lively spot with Teton views and wood-fired pizza, there's a real opportunity here that the list mostly leaves on the table.
The 60-to-100 bottle list leans heavily on California and crowd-friendly French imports, with Italy making a cameo mostly in the sparkling and lighter red categories. Duckhorn Merlot is the ceiling here — a solid, well-known name, but not exactly a deep cut. There's no real exploration of Italian regions to match the kitchen's pasta and pizza focus, which feels like a missed connection. If you're hoping to find a Sicilian Nero d'Avola or a Tuscan blend that makes the wood-fired margherita sing, keep looking.
With 12 to 18 by-the-glass options, there's enough to work with across a table, and the usual suspects are well represented. The rotation doesn't appear to change much — this is a set-it-and-forget-it program rather than anything driven by seasonality or staff enthusiasm. You'll find your Whispering Angel rosé without any trouble; finding something genuinely interesting is another matter.
La Marca Prosecco — null
Pricing unknown, but La Marca is a widely distributed, reliably clean Prosecco that punches above its modest retail price point. On a warm evening on that big lawn, it's the right call — approachable, food-friendly, and hard to mess up with pizza.
Duckhorn Merlot
Duckhorn Merlot gets overlooked because it sounds like something your uncle orders, but it's genuinely well-made Napa fruit at a tier that most lists don't bother with. Order it with the rotisserie or grilled meat and stop apologizing for liking Merlot.
Whispering Angel Rosé
It's a $25 retail bottle that restaurants in resort towns routinely charge $80+ for, and Calico is not immune to the markup math. You're paying for the pink label and the Instagram moment. There are better uses of your money on this list.
Meiomi Pinot Noir + Wood-fired pizza
Meiomi is soft, fruit-forward, and low in tannin — exactly what you want with a char-edged pizza where tomato acidity and smokiness are doing the work. It won't fight the food, and on a casual night out, that's the whole point.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Calico is a great neighborhood restaurant that happens to have a wine list, not a great wine destination that also serves pasta. Come for the pizza, the lawn, and the mountain air — but don't expect the list to keep up with the scenery.
