First Impression
The wine list at Camille's reads like a love letter to Italy with a few California postcards tucked in. It's not trying to reinvent anything — this is Federal Hill, and this is a classic red-sauce institution — but there's more going on here than you'd expect from a place coasting on nostalgia. The Italian regional coverage is legitimately good.
Selection Deep Dive
The Italian backbone is solid: Friuli Pinot Grigio, Valpolicella Ripasso, Barolo, Barbaresco, Campanian whites — that's a real itinerary, not just a Greatest Hits playlist. The 2005 Feudi di San Gregorio Privilegio showing up on a neighborhood Italian list is genuinely surprising and earns real respect. Tuscany and Piedmont are well-represented, though the list doesn't push too far into natural territory or obscure producers. The 2018 Patz & Hall Carneros Hyde Vineyard Pinot Noir is the California outlier — a quality pour but priced at a premium that feels out of step with the rest of the list.
By the Glass
Glass pours run $14–$18, which is on the higher end for a neighborhood Italian but not egregious if the quality holds. We don't have a confirmed count of BTG options, but the range suggests a rotating short list anchored in Italian whites and reds. Nothing about this screams by-the-glass hero program — it's workmanlike, not inspired.
2020 VALPOLICELLA RIPASSO Bertani — $56
Bertani is a Veneto institution, and a Ripasso at the lower end of this bottle range gives you the depth and dried-cherry richness of Amarone territory without the sticker shock. Smart order for the table.
2005 FEUDI DI SAN GREGORIO Privilegio
A nearly 20-year-old Campanian white from one of the South's best producers sitting on a Federal Hill menu? Most people will scroll right past it, which is a mistake. This is the kind of wine that makes a dinner memorable.
2018 PATZ & HALL Pinot Noir Napa Valley Carneros Hyde Vineyard
It's a fine wine — Hyde Vineyard fruit, Patz & Hall's reliable hand — but at $115 on a bottle list that otherwise tops out at Italian regional, you're paying a serious premium for the California import tax. Stick to the Italian side of the list.
2020 VALPOLICELLA RIPASSO Bertani + Braised Short Rib or Osso Buco
Ripasso's weight and savory dried-fruit character is built for slow-cooked, fatty meat dishes. It bridges the gap between a lighter Valpolicella and a full Amarone — exactly what you want alongside something braised and rich.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Camille's isn't a wine destination, but it's not an afterthought either — the Italian regional selection has real depth and the Feudi di San Gregorio Privilegio alone is worth a look. Markups creep steep, so pick wisely and you'll drink well.
