Wingman Metrics
Cibo Vino walks into the room dressed nicely — warm lighting, modern Italian vibes, a wine list that looks the part. Flip it open and you'll find familiar, bankable names that won't offend anyone at the table. It's the wine equivalent of a well-ironed shirt: presentable, but not exactly adventurous.
The list leans heavily on California with a nod to Northern Italy — think Paso Robles Cabs, Napa Chardonnay, and a token Pinot Grigio from Valdadige. You'll recognize almost every label here from a grocery store end cap: Meiomi, Decoy, Cakebread, La Marca. There's nothing wrong with any of them, but if you came hoping to stumble onto a grower Barolo or a left-field Sicilian red, keep walking. The Italian restaurant name writes a check the wine list can't quite cash.
The by-the-glass program runs 12-18 options in the $12-$18 range, which is reasonable for Omaha's upscale-casual tier. Rotation doesn't appear to be a priority — the lineup reads like it was set at opening and hasn't been touched since. You're getting safe, widely distributed pours that hold no surprises, for better or worse.
Decoy by Duckhorn Cabernet Sauvignon — $60
At 140% markup it's the least punishing bottle on a list full of gouging. Decoy is a known quantity — smooth, fruit-forward, crowd-pleasing Cab that works for a table of mixed drinkers. Not exciting, but you won't feel robbed.
Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio Valdadige
Most people default to the reds here, which is exactly why you should order this. At 116% markup it's one of the tamer hits to your wallet, and Santa Margherita is genuinely one of the more food-friendly Pinot Grigios you'll find on a list like this — crisp, clean, and actually Italian.
J. Lohr Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon
Nearly a 200% markup on a $15 retail bottle is a hard no. Seven Oaks is a perfectly fine everyday Cab — emphasis on everyday. At $44 a bottle you can do much better elsewhere on this very list.
Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay Napa Valley + House-made fettuccine
Cakebread's Napa Chard has enough oak and body to stand up to a cream or butter-based pasta sauce without bulldozing it. It's a classic call for a reason, and at a place that makes its pasta in-house, this is the move.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Cibo Vino is a perfectly fine place to drink wine in Omaha — the room is good, the list is safe, and you won't be embarrassed by what you order. Just go in knowing you're paying a premium for familiarity, not discovery.
