Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Dornan's Spur Bar is about as unpretentious as the setting — you're staring at the Tetons through floor-to-ceiling windows and nobody's asking you to think too hard. It's a short, familiar roster of names you've seen at your grocery store, priced for a tourist crowd that just hiked eight miles and wants a glass of something red without drama. No surprises here, but also no highway robbery.
The list runs 20 to 35 bottles and leans heavily on reliable commercial brands — Ruffino Chianti, Joel Gott Cabernet, Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc, Bogle Old Vine Zinfandel, La Marca Prosecco. It's a greatest-hits compilation for casual drinkers, not a deep dive into any region or style. Don't come looking for natural wine, obscure Italian varietals, or anything from the Southern Hemisphere beyond Kim Crawford's New Zealand SB. What you do get is consistency: these are well-made, mass-market bottles that won't let you down after a long day in Grand Teton National Park.
Eight to twelve pours are available by the glass, ranging from $8 to $13 — genuinely reasonable for a Jackson Hole destination where everything else costs twice what it should. The selection mirrors the bottle list: approachable, familiar, covering the basics of white, red, and bubbles. Don't expect the list to rotate seasonally; this feels like a program that's been the same since the last time they repainted the bar.
Bogle Vineyards Old Vine Zinfandel — $13
Old Vine Zin at $13 a glass is a legitimate deal in a tourist corridor where wines routinely get marked up to absurdity. Bogle's version is ripe, crowd-friendly, and actually holds up next to a pizza loaded with sausage and peppers.
Ruffino Chianti
It's easy to overlook Ruffino Chianti when you see it on a list next to Joel Gott, but a classic Chianti is actually the most food-forward choice on this list — bright acidity, earthy backbone, built for tomato-based sauces. Most people will grab the Cab out of habit and miss the better match.
La Marca Prosecco
La Marca is fine in theory, but bubbly by the glass in a casual bar setting is rarely served at the right temperature or in the right vessel, and the price bump for bubbles rarely makes sense here. Grab it if you're celebrating, otherwise your money goes further elsewhere on this list.
Ruffino Chianti + Gourmet Pizza
Chianti and pizza is not a revelation — it's just correct. The Ruffino's acidity cuts through cheese and fat, the earthy notes mirror the char on the crust, and the whole thing tastes like you're doing something right while watching the sun dip behind the Tetons.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Dornan's Spur Bar isn't a wine destination — it's a view destination with a wine list that does its job without embarrassing itself. Send your friends here for the pizza and the scenery, and tell them the Chianti is the move.
