First Impression
You're deep in the Maine woods at a boutique resort, and then the wine list lands and you realize this place means it. A Wine Spectator Award of Excellence since 2023 isn't accidental β the list reads like someone actually thought about what belongs here. It's not sprawling, but it's curated with intention.
Selection Deep Dive
The list runs 150-250 bottles leaning hard into California and France, with Italy holding down a respectable third lane. You'll find recognizable anchors like Stag's Leap Cabernet, Caymus, and Duckhorn Merlot on the California side, while Louis Jadot covers your Burgundy bases and Antinori's Tignanello represents Italy with real muscle. ChΓ’teau Miraval RosΓ© is a nod to the French side that doesn't feel like an afterthought. The gaps are predictable β no deep dive into RhΓ΄ne, Spain, or anything too left-field β but for a forest resort in coastal Maine, this is punching above its weight class.
By the Glass
The by-the-glass program offers 10-18 options at $12-$18 a pour, which is honest pricing for the setting. Jordan Winery Chardonnay and ChΓ’teau Miraval RosΓ© are likely anchors here, giving you solid options without having to commit to a full bottle before your lobster arrives. We'd like to see more rotation, but what's here is reliable.
Jordan Winery Chardonnay β $14
Jordan's Chardonnay is one of the more consistent California whites at this price point β restrained oak, good acidity, and it doesn't try too hard. By the glass in a place like this, it's the move before a seafood course.
Antinori Tignanello
Most tables here are ordering Caymus or Stag's Leap on autopilot, which means Tignanello β a Super Tuscan blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc β gets overlooked. It's a more interesting bottle and earns every dollar on a list like this.
Caymus Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
Caymus is fine wine but it's everywhere, it's marked up everywhere, and there are better California Cabs on this very list. It's the safe order that doesn't reward you for being here.
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon + Grass-fed beef tenderloin
Stag's Leap Cab has the structure to stand up to beef without bulldozing it β dark fruit, firm tannins, enough elegance to match the refined presentation of a tenderloin at a place this serious about its food.
π² The Bottom Line
Earth at Hidden Pond is the kind of place you don't expect to find a real wine list, and that's exactly what makes it a Wild Card. If you're already making the trip to Kennebunkport, this is where you eat and drink well.
