First Impression
The wine list at Eddie V's reads like a greatest hits album of California wine — every label your parents recognize, every bottle a safe bet. It's polished, confident, and about as adventurous as a tuxedo. For a luxury seafood house in El Segundo, that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Selection Deep Dive
With 200-300 selections, there's real depth here, but it's almost entirely California-focused — and within that, firmly in the Napa-Sonoma comfort zone. Caymus, Silver Oak, Jordan, Duckhorn, Far Niente, Cakebread, Rombauer — these are crowd-pleasing institutions, not discoveries. There's no obvious push into Burgundy, Champagne, or coastal alternatives that would complement a serious seafood menu. Wine Spectator handed them an Award of Excellence since 2020, and you can see why — the execution is solid even if the curation is safe.
By the Glass
Twenty to thirty pours by the glass is a generous program, running $14–$22 a glass, and the lineup mirrors the bottle list — California Chardonnay heavy, with Cabernets anchoring the red side. Sonoma-Cutrer Russian River Ranches Chardonnay showing up by the glass is a genuinely nice touch for a seafood-forward menu. Don't expect much rotation; this list feels like it was set and left.
Sonoma-Cutrer Russian River Ranches Chardonnay — $16
A by-the-glass pour of Russian River Ranches at this price point is legitimately good value — bright acidity, restrained oak, and it actually works with the food on this menu in a way Rombauer won't.
Jordan Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
Jordan gets overlooked because it's not flashy and doesn't chase Parker points, but it's one of the most food-friendly Cabernets California produces — elegant, not extracted, and a smarter order than the louder names on this list.
Caymus Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
Caymus is everywhere, marked up everywhere, and leans so ripe and sweet that it bulldozes delicate seafood flavors. You're paying a premium for a label, not for a wine that makes sense here.
Far Niente Chardonnay + Chilean Sea Bass
Far Niente brings enough richness and texture to stand up to the buttery, meaty sea bass without overwhelming it — it's the kind of match that makes the whole table quiet for a second.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Eddie V's is exactly what it promises — a reliable, well-stocked California list in a luxury setting that'll make everyone at the table happy, even if it won't surprise anyone. Send your in-laws here; save the adventurous stuff for a different night.
