First Impression
Walking into Il Terrazzo Carmine feels like someone paused time somewhere around 1985 and decided that was actually fine — white tablecloths, low light, the whole bit. The wine list lands the same way: serious, curated, and unapologetically old-school Italian. This is not a place that's trying to impress you with natural wines and cheeky labels.
Selection Deep Dive
The list leans heavily into Italian heritage — expect a strong showing of Piedmontese and Tuscan bottles, the kind of list that takes Barolo and Brunello seriously rather than treating them as checkboxes. International selections round things out without overtaking the Italian soul of the program. The bubbly section alone signals intent: they're stocking Taittinger NV alongside domestic Prosecco and a more esoteric Contratto Blanc de Blanc, which tells you someone back there actually cares. The main gap is transparency on pricing upfront — you're going in a little blind until the list lands in your hands.
By the Glass
By-the-glass options exist but the exact count is unclear, and the program doesn't appear to rotate aggressively — this feels more like a classic by-the-glass setup than a dynamic glass program. What's there is solid, but if you're hoping for five Burgundy pours and a rotating skin-contact white, recalibrate. Come here to drink bottles.
Prosecco Millesimato 2022 TURETTA CA' BIANCA Extra Dry — null
A vintage-dated Prosecco from a small Veneto producer is genuinely a nicer start to dinner than the price category suggests — especially next to the Taittinger. Order this before your carpaccio and don't feel bad about it.
Contratto Blanc de Blanc Extra Brut
Contratto is one of Italy's oldest and most underrated sparkling producers, and their Blanc de Blanc hits well above its recognition level. Most tables will default to the Taittinger — which means you can feel quietly smug ordering this one instead.
Taittinger Brut Reserve N.V.
Taittinger Brut Reserve is perfectly good Champagne, but it's also on every fine dining list in America and gets marked up accordingly. Unless you just need the comfort of a familiar label, the Contratto next to it is a more interesting pour for likely less money.
Contratto Blanc de Blanc Extra Brut + Beef Carpaccio
The Extra Brut dosage and crisp acidity cut right through the richness of the carpaccio without stepping on the delicate beef flavor — better than reaching for a heavier white and far more fun than opening with red.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Il Terrazzo Carmine is the kind of place you bring someone you want to impress and know the wine list won't embarrass you — it's not cheap, and it's not adventurous, but it's cared for and it shows. Send a friend here for a special occasion; just tell them to skip the Taittinger.
