First Impression
Walk into Jack's and the wine list feels exactly like the room — classic, a little formal, not trying to reinvent anything. It's a focused list that leans into what works with oysters and seafood, which is honestly the right call. No surprises, no gimmicks, just a sensible selection that respects its surroundings.
Selection Deep Dive
The list clocks in somewhere around 60-100 bottles and puts its best foot forward with Burgundy and Loire Valley whites — smart choices for a seafood house. Chablis and Sancerre anchor the French side, while Willamette Valley Pinot Gris represents Oregon with confidence. California rounds things out for the crowd that wants a familiar name on the label. The gaps show in the Southern Hemisphere and anything adventurous or natural, but for a century-old Albany institution, this is a coherent, purpose-built list.
By the Glass
Ten to sixteen options by the glass is a solid spread for a restaurant at this price point, and the program skews appropriately toward whites and lighter reds that play well with the seafood menu. Happy hour drops house pours to $5, which is a genuinely good deal if you time it right. Don't expect a rotating slate of esoteric picks — the BTG list is steady and practical.
Willamette Valley Pinot Gris — $N/A
Oregon Pinot Gris at a classic seafood house is a natural fit — bright acidity, stone fruit, and enough body to stand up to oysters or a grilled fish entree. It's the kind of pick that overdelivers for the price point in this room.
Chablis
Most people at a historic Albany seafood joint are reaching for California Chardonnay out of habit. The Chablis on this list — mineral-driven, lean, and built for shellfish — is the smarter move and probably underordered. It's doing exactly what wine at an oyster bar should do.
House Wine
Outside of happy hour, the house pour loses its value proposition fast. At $5 during the right window it's a no-brainer, but at full price there are better options on this list that aren't going to cost you much more.
Sancerre + Oysters
This is a textbook match that Jack's is set up to execute perfectly. Sancerre's crisp acidity and saline minerality cut right through the brine of a fresh oyster — it's the reason Loire Valley whites exist, basically.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Jack's Oyster Bar isn't a destination wine list, but it's a thoughtful one that knows its lane. If you're eating seafood in Albany and want a bottle that won't embarrass the meal, you're in good hands here.
