First Impression
The wine list at Ledges arrives looking like a greatest hits compilation from a California Cabernet fan's dream cellar — Caymus, Jordan, Stag's Leap, Duckhorn, all present and accounted for. It's a list that plays it safe but plays it well, designed for guests who know what they like and aren't looking for surprises. The panoramic White Mountain views do a lot of the heavy lifting, and honestly, that's part of the experience.
Selection Deep Dive
The 100-150 bottle list leans hard into California, which at least means the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence (held since 2016) reflects a genuine commitment to one region done with some depth. Napa heavyweights like Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, and Cakebread Cellars anchor the red and white sides respectively, while Rombauer and Sonoma-Cutrer cover the Chardonnay crowd. What's missing is any real adventure — no interesting Rhône producers, no domestic outliers, no skin-contact curiosity to break the monotony for guests who've already worked through the California canon. This is a list built for the resort guest who wants recognition, not discovery.
By the Glass
The by-the-glass program runs 10-20 options, which is a respectable range for a hotel restaurant in a mountain town. Expect the usual suspects — a Chardonnay or two, a Cab, maybe a Merlot — but don't count on much rotation or seasonal surprises. It gets the job done after a day on the trails, but this isn't a pour-by-the-glass program anyone is making a special trip for.
Sonoma-Cutrer Chardonnay — $45
A dependable, well-made Russian River Ranches Chard that consistently punches above its price point. At the lower end of this list's range, it's the smart order if you want something classic without the Rombauer markup.
Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon
Jordan gets overlooked because it doesn't have the cult cachet of Caymus, but it's consistently one of California's most food-friendly Cabs — leaner, more structured, and better suited to a steak dinner than the blockbuster stuff. Most tables walk right past it.
Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon
Caymus is everywhere, the markup is predictably aggressive at a resort, and the wine itself has gotten richer and more extracted with each vintage — fine if that's your thing, but you're paying a premium for a label, not a bargain.
Duckhorn Merlot + Braveheart Black Angus Steak
Duckhorn's Napa Merlot is plush, structured, and built for red meat — it's one of the few wines on this list that genuinely elevates a well-sourced steak rather than just sitting alongside it.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Ledges is a Reliable stop — a solid California-focused list in a genuinely beautiful setting that rewards guests who stick to the right bottles and don't overthink it. If you're after adventure, bring your own; if you want a great Cab with a mountain view, you're in good hands.
