Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Loft Bar and Bistro reads exactly like the room feels — approachable, crowd-pleasing, and built for a downtown after-work crowd that wants something familiar. There's nothing here to make a wine nerd's pulse quicken, but there's also nothing to actively embarrass anyone. It does its job.
The list is California through and through — Meiomi, Josh, Imagery, Ferrari-Carano, Markham — you've seen these names on every mid-range restaurant list from Fresno to San Francisco. The bottle range tops out at Veuve Clicquot ($130) and Mumm Cuvée M ($75) for bubbles, which is a reasonable touch for celebration tables, but there's no meaningful exploration of Burgundy, Rhône, Italy, or Spain to speak of. The 7 Deadly Lodi Zinfandel is the one selection that hints at a California story worth telling, but the list doesn't build on it. Gaps are wide: no Pinot from the Willamette, no Albariño, no Cab Franc — it's a greatest-hits playlist, not a deep cut.
The by-the-glass program runs 12-plus pours, which is genuinely solid for a place like this and means you can build a real by-the-glass dinner if you commit. The range tops at $16 (Meiomi Pinot Noir) with a $9 floor for house pours that are exactly what you'd expect from a $9 house pour. Rotation appears minimal — this list looks like it hasn't moved in a season.
Markham Napa Sauvignon Blanc — $14/glass
Markham makes a clean, food-friendly Napa Sauv Blanc that punches above a $14 glass price — especially compared to the markups on bottles here. Order this with calamari and don't overthink it.
7 Deadly Lodi Zinfandel
Lodi Zinfandel is deeply unfashionable right now, which makes it the most interesting thing on this list. Bold, jammy, and more honest about what it is than half the Napa bottles sitting next to it. Most tables will skip right past it — don't.
Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling Columbia Valley
A 256% markup on a $9 retail bottle is the worst math on this list. Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling is a perfectly fine grocery store wine — there's no reason to pay restaurant prices for it here when better-value pours are on the same menu.
Ferrari-Carano Chardonnay + Stuffed Chicken Breast
Ferrari-Carano's Chardonnay brings enough oak and stone fruit to complement a rich stuffed chicken without bulldozing it. It's a safe, satisfying play that works exactly as advertised — no surprises, no regrets.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Loft Bar and Bistro is a reliable downtown option for a glass of something familiar without much stress or adventure. The markups sting on bottles, so stick to by-the-glass and pick thoughtfully — this list rewards the cautious drinker, not the curious one.
