Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Morrissey's reads like someone actually cares about France — not in a showy way, just in a 'we stocked the regions that matter' way. For a Broadway bistro in Saratoga Springs, that's already more than you'd expect. Wine Spectator has handed them an Award of Excellence every year since 2018, and the list holds up its end of that deal.
The focus is unambiguously French, and that focus pays off. You've got Burgundy covered on both sides — Côte de Nuits for the pinot faithful, Côte de Beaune for those who want something a little broader — alongside serious Bordeaux from Médoc and Saint-Émilion. The Rhône shows up with Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which is exactly the kind of bold, crowd-pleasing pick that works in a lively dining room. Loire whites round things out with Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, and Alsace sneaks in with Riesling and Pinot Gris that most American diners walk right past. At 100–150 bottles, it's not an encyclopedia, but the curation is honest.
Twelve to eighteen pours by the glass is a solid program for a neighborhood bistro, and the $10–$18 price range is reasonable given the quality tier of the list. We'd want to see more rotation and a posted list that changes with the season, but what's here is genuinely drinkable and not just filler Chardonnay from a bulk producer.
Alsatian Riesling — $35–$45
Alsace Riesling almost always gets underpriced relative to what it delivers — bright acidity, real complexity, and none of the sweetness stigma. At the lower end of this list's range, it's the smartest pour in the room.
Alsatian Pinot Gris
Most tables at Morrissey's are ordering Sancerre or something from Bordeaux. That means the Alsatian Pinot Gris is just sitting there — fuller-bodied than most whites on the list, great with richer dishes, and almost always underordered. Don't sleep on it.
Sancerre
Sancerre is delicious, but it's also the most requested French white in American restaurants, which means it gets marked up accordingly. You're paying for the name recognition here. The Pouilly-Fumé or the Alsatian options deliver a similar thrill at a better price point.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape + Steak & Eggs
A Southern Rhône blend with the kind of weight and dark fruit that can handle a serious cut of beef. The Steak & Eggs is a rich, savory plate, and Châteauneuf-du-Pape has the structure to match without bulldozing the dish.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Morrissey's is the kind of place where the wine list quietly overachieves — a France-forward, fairly priced program that gives you real options without requiring a wine degree to navigate. If you're in Saratoga and want a glass of something genuinely good with dinner, this is a reliable stop.
