First Impression
The wine list at Oceano Kitchen feels like it was put together by someone who actually thought about what people order at a seafood restaurant — there's a clear lean toward California and Pacific Northwest whites that make sense with the coastal menu. It's not a list that's trying to impress you with obscure producers, but it's not phoning it in either. For South Reno, this is a legitimately respectable effort.
Selection Deep Dive
The list pulls from a focused set of regions — California, the Pacific Northwest, Burgundy, and New Zealand — which maps reasonably well onto a seafood-forward kitchen. You're going to find your Duckhorn Cab for the table that insists on red, and your Cakebread Chard for the crowd that wants something safe and creamy. The Burgundy presence suggests some ambition beyond the obvious California comfort zone, and New Zealand hints at Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc territory, which is frankly a smart call when you're slinging oysters and fish. The list clocks in around 30–60 selections, which is moderate — not overwhelming, not embarrassingly thin.
By the Glass
With 8–14 glass pours on offer, there's enough variety to actually make a decision rather than just defaulting to house white. We'd expect to see the Cakebread Chardonnay and Rombauer showing up by the glass given their crowd appeal, though the exact glass pour lineup wasn't fully confirmed. What we do know: the by-the-glass program has enough range to carry you through a full meal without feeling stuck.
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 — $72
At roughly 50% over retail, this is the tightest markup on the list for a bottle with genuine Napa pedigree. Stag's Leap Artemis retails around $48 and punches well above that — you're getting a legitimate Napa Cab at a price that doesn't feel like highway robbery.
Rombauer Vineyards Chardonnay Carneros 2022
Yes, Rombauer is everywhere — but Carneros is actually doing something more interesting than the standard Napa butter bomb. The cooler growing region brings more tension and fruit precision to the glass, and at $68 on a seafood list, it's a better match for the food than most people give it credit for.
Duckhorn Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
At $85, this is the highest-priced bottle and carries the same ~55% markup as the Cakebread — but Duckhorn Napa Cab and a seafood menu are a weird match. You're paying a premium for a wine that's going to fight with most of what's on the plate. Skip it and save the money for Wednesday.
Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay Napa Valley 2021 + Fresh Catch of the Day
Cakebread Chardonnay walks the line between ripe California fruit and enough acidity to cut through butter or cream sauces — exactly what you want against a simply prepared fish. It's a crowd-pleaser for a reason, and on a seafood menu it actually earns its place.
Wednesday — Half-price bottles of wine all day Wednesday
✔️ The Bottom Line
Oceano Kitchen isn't trying to be a wine destination, but the list is thoughtfully assembled for the concept and the markups are genuinely reasonable by Reno restaurant standards. Come on a Wednesday, grab a bottle of the Artemis at half price, and you'll leave very happy.
