First Impression

You're at a golf club restaurant perched above pine forest with the San Francisco Peaks in the background — the wine list matches the setting: polished, familiar, and unapologetically Californian. This is not a list that takes risks, but it's curated with enough intention to earn its fresh Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. Sommelier Isaiah Palmer's influence shows in the tighter selections.

Selection Deep Dive

The 150-250 bottle list reads like a greatest-hits compilation of Napa Valley — Caymus, Silver Oak, Duckhorn, Stag's Leap, Jordan, Cakebread, Rombauer, Far Niente, and a top-shelf Opus One for the table that just closed a deal on the back nine. There's no meaningful exploration of Burgundy, Rhône, or anything European, and domestic adventure stops firmly at the California state line. For a restaurant earning a WS credential, you'd hope for at least a nod toward something left of center — a Willamette Pinot, a Texas Tempranillo, anything. What it does deliver, it delivers confidently: these are well-known, well-sourced bottles that won't let you down.

By the Glass

With 12-20 pours ranging from $12-$18, the by-the-glass program is generous in count and reasonable in price given the fine dining context. You're not going to find anything adventurous in the glass lineup — expect the Rombauer Chardonnay and a house Cab to anchor the list — but the Wednesday half-price wine night makes this legitimately compelling for locals.

💰Best Value

Chateau Ste. Michelle Indian Wells Chardonnay 2023 — $48

In a list dominated by $85-$135 Napa heavyweights, this Washington State Chardonnay stands out as the one bottle that doesn't require a second look at your bank account. It's a well-made, food-friendly pour that holds its own against the seared scallops without making you feel like you're slumming it.

💎Hidden Gem

Jordan Winery Cabernet Sauvignon

Everyone grabs for the Caymus or the Silver Oak, but Jordan quietly outperforms both at this table. It's a more restrained, structured Cab that actually works with food rather than bulldozing it — the kind of bottle that makes the Wagyu tenderloin shine instead of competing with it.

Skip This

Opus One 2020

At $595 on a golf club list with no retail pricing context, you're paying a premium on top of a premium for the badge factor. Opus One is a great wine. It's also a wine you can find for considerably less if you care about what's in the glass over what's on the label. Order the Far Niente instead and pocket the difference.

🍽️Perfect Pairing

Duckhorn Vineyards Merlot Napa Valley 2021 + Roasted duck breast with cherry gastrique

Duckhorn built its reputation on Merlot, and this pairing is almost embarrassingly obvious in the best way — the dark fruit and plush structure of the Merlot locks into the cherry gastrique and rich duck fat without a single awkward moment. It's the kind of no-brainer that works because it actually works.

🍷Half-Price Wine Night

WednesdayHalf-price wine bottles on Wednesdays — the best reason to make a reservation mid-week.

✔️ The Bottom Line

Pine Canyon is a well-executed, California-forward list that plays it safe but plays it well — the sommelier knows his stuff, the Wednesday wine night is a genuine draw, and the setting earns extra credit. Send a friend here if they love Napa Cabs and sunsets over ponderosa pines; tell them to skip the Opus One.
