First Impression
The wine list at Prime Catch reads exactly like the room looks — comfortable, well-appointed, and not trying to surprise you. Sitting on the Intracoastal with a warm breeze and live music in the background, you're not reaching for an obscure Jura pét-nat. You're reaching for a cold Chardonnay, and this list is very ready for that.
Selection Deep Dive
California is the whole story here, and to their credit, they tell it well. The lineup leans heavily on Napa and Sonoma standbys — Rombauer, Cakebread, Far Niente, Stag's Leap, Duckhorn, Jordan — names that move units in waterfront dining rooms from Sarasota to Palm Beach. What you won't find is much adventure: no Burgundy to speak of, no interesting Rhône whites, nothing from the Southern Hemisphere worth noting. The Wine Spectator Award of Excellence (earned in 2024) reflects a tightly curated California program done competently, not a sprawling cellar that demands exploration. If you came for depth across regions, you'll be mildly disappointed. If you came for a well-priced bottle of Sonoma Chardonnay with your snapper, you're in exactly the right place.
By the Glass
The by-the-glass program runs 12-20 options and stays squarely in familiar territory, with selections topping out around $16 a pour — reasonable for a waterfront spot in South Florida where markups can get greedy fast. Expect the usual suspects from the bottle list to appear here in glass form. Rotation appears limited; this is a set-it-and-forget-it program, not one that's swapping in seasonal surprises.
Sonoma-Cutrer Russian River Ranches Chardonnay — $60
This is a genuinely serious Chardonnay — focused, mineral-driven, with real Russian River tension — that often gets lost behind Rombauer's buttery fan club. At this price point in a waterfront dining room, it's the smart order at the table.
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Chardonnay
Most people at this table are going straight for Rombauer or Cakebread without looking twice at the Stag's Leap Chard. That's a mistake. It's more structured and less overtly oaky than the crowd favorites, and it holds up beautifully against richer seafood preparations.
Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay
It's a fine grocery store bottle, and there's no shame in that — but in a room with Far Niente and Cakebread on the same list, paying restaurant markup on KJ Vintner's Reserve is just leaving money on the table. Step up or go by the glass elsewhere.
Far Niente Chardonnay + Maine Lobster
Far Niente's Chardonnay brings enough richness and toasty oak to hold its own against the sweetness of Maine lobster without bulldozing it. It's a classic pairing and one of the few moments on this list where the wine and the kitchen are genuinely speaking the same language.

Prime Catch earns its Wine Spectator nod by doing California Chardonnay and Cabernet reliably well in a room that has no business needing to try harder — waterfront views, live music, and a fair pricing structure do a lot of the heavy lifting. Send your parents here; they'll be thrilled. Just don't come expecting to discover anything new.
