First Impression
The wine list at Providence GPub is exactly what you'd expect from a lively downtown gastropub — short, familiar, and designed to not intimidate anyone. Twelve labels, all twelve available by the glass, with prices that won't make you flinch. This isn't a wine destination; it's a place where wine gets along just fine with the truffle fries.
Selection Deep Dive
The list leans heavily on crowd-friendly names — Josh, Old Soul, Whispering Angel — with a light California and Italian backbone and a single New Zealand rep in The Crossings Sauvignon Blanc. There's no real depth here: no aged bottles, no interesting producers, no deep regional exploration. What you do get is a grab bag of recognizable grocery-store labels that most diners will feel comfortable ordering without thinking twice. The inclusion of an FRE non-alcoholic Cabernet is a nice nod to inclusivity, even if it's a bit of an outlier on an otherwise conventional list.
By the Glass
All twelve bottles on the list pour by the glass, which is genuinely helpful even if the selection itself is fairly vanilla. Prices run $9–$15 per glass, which is reasonable for downtown Providence and keeps this from feeling like a shakedown. Rotation doesn't appear to be a priority — this list looks like it hasn't changed much in a while.
Cave de Lugny Unoaked Chardonnay — $9
A cooperative-made Mâcon from Burgundy for likely the lowest price on the list — no butter, no oak, just clean and food-friendly. At $9 a glass it's legitimately the best juice-per-dollar option here.
The Crossings Sauvignon Blanc NZ
Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc gets ignored on gastropub lists because people reach for something red, but The Crossings is a solid, zesty pour that cuts through fried food better than anything else on this list.
Whispering Angel Rose FR
It's fine wine but it's priced on brand recognition, not quality-per-dollar. You're paying for the pink bottle and the Instagram cachet — the rest of the list offers better value for the same social occasion.
The Crossings Sauvignon Blanc NZ + Truffle Fries
The bright citrus and grassy snap of the Sauvignon Blanc cuts the richness of the truffle oil and gives the saltiness somewhere interesting to land. It's a better call than reaching for a red here.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Providence GPub isn't a wine bar and it's not trying to be — but the pricing is fair, the list covers the basics, and you won't be stuck drinking something terrible while you eat your burger. Come for the food, order the Cave de Lugny, and call it a win.
