First Impression
You're sitting on the East River in Kips Bay β not exactly the neighborhood that screams Domaine de la RomanΓ©e-Conti β and then the wine list lands and resets your expectations entirely. This is a serious 400-600 bottle program that earns its Best of Award of Excellence without apology. France and California dominate, and they do it with names that make you sit up straight.
Selection Deep Dive
The list reads like someone with genuine conviction built it: Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet, Chateau Margaux, and Gaja Barbaresco share pages with California heavyweights like Kistler Vineyards Chardonnay, Opus One, and Ridge Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon. Burgundy gets a proper showcase β both white and red β and Italy holds its own rather than playing a supporting role. Oregon gets a nod via Domaine Drouhin, which shows some range beyond the France-California axis. The gaps are real β Southern Hemisphere and natural wine fans will feel underserved β but the depth in the core regions is the point here.
By the Glass
With roughly 15-25 pours running $12-$25, the by-the-glass program is functional and covers the bases without being particularly adventurous. The range holds up for a weeknight dinner, but the real action is in the bottle list. Don't come here expecting a rotating glass program that'll surprise you every visit.
Domaine Drouhin Oregon Pinot Noir β $45β$70 (bottle estimate)
Oregon Pinot from Drouhin is always a value play on a list loaded with Burgundy at three times the price β similar cool-climate elegance, significantly less sticker shock. It's the smart order on a list that can otherwise run steep.
Ridge Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon
Most tables reaching for California Cab here will go Opus One out of habit. Ridge Monte Bello is the more interesting bottle β a Santa Cruz Mountains Cab with decades of track record and more complexity than its price suggests relative to the trophy wines around it.
Opus One
Opus One is a perfectly good wine that gets marked up everywhere it exists, and restaurant wine lists are no exception. You're paying a premium for the name recognition. The Ridge next to it tells a better story for less money.
Kistler Vineyards Chardonnay + Pan-seared fish
Kistler is one of the benchmark California Chardonnays β rich and structured without going full butter-bomb. Against a well-executed pan-seared fish with any kind of pan sauce, it's the match the kitchen deserves.
π₯ The Bottom Line
Riverpark is doing real wine program work in a neighborhood that doesn't demand it, and that counts for something. Bring your budget β this list rewards people willing to spend β but the depth and credibility here make it worth the trip east.
