First Impression

You're in Wichita, inside a hotel, and somehow staring at Tignanello and Sassicaia on the same list โ€” that's not something you see coming. The Italian backbone here is serious, and the California heavy-hitters show up too, making this feel less like a steakhouse wine list and more like someone actually gave a damn. Wine Spectator's Award of Excellence since 2024 is well-earned.

Selection Deep Dive

The Italian section is the real reason to be here: Antinori Tignanello, Sassicaia from Tenuta San Guido, Brunello di Montalcino from Banfi or Altesino, and Barolo from Prunotto or Pio Cesare โ€” that's a legit Tuscan and Piedmontese lineup for a steakhouse in the middle of Kansas. California holds its own with Caymus, Silver Oak, Jordan, and Stag's Leap, hitting the familiar notes that steak-night crowds expect. Chianti Classico Riserva rounds out the mid-tier Italy section nicely, giving you something to drink while you debate whether to pull the trigger on the Sassicaia. At 150โ€“250 bottles with a focus on Italy and California, the list doesn't try to cover the world โ€” it commits to two lanes and drives them hard.

By the Glass

With 12โ€“20 by-the-glass options, there's enough to navigate a full dinner without committing to a bottle, which is more than most steakhouses in this zip code offer. Sommelier Philip Arney is on staff, so the glass pours likely get some real attention rather than just defaulting to the cheapest bulk wine available. We'd ask what's currently pouring before defaulting to the menu โ€” staff here seems equipped to steer you right.

๐Ÿ’ฐBest Value

Chianti Classico Riserva (Castello di Ama) โ€” $60

Castello di Ama makes one of the benchmark Chianti Classico Riservas in Tuscany, and at the lower end of this list's pricing, it's the move that gets you serious Italian terroir without the three-digit commitment.

๐Ÿ’ŽHidden Gem

Barolo (Pio Cesare)

Pio Cesare is a Barolo producer that still flies under the radar compared to the cult names, but it consistently delivers classic Nebbiolo structure and depth. Most tables here are going straight to the Caymus โ€” their loss.

โ›”Skip This

Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon

Caymus is fine wine, but it's also the most marked-up, most-ordered bottle in every steakhouse in America. You're paying a premium for the name recognition, and with Stag's Leap and Jordan on the same list, there are better California Cabs at better value sitting right next to it.

๐Ÿฝ๏ธPerfect Pairing

Antinori Tignanello + Rack of Lamb

Tignanello's Sangiovese-Cabernet blend has the structure and dark fruit to stand up to lamb without bulldozing it โ€” this is exactly the kind of pairing that justifies ordering a $100+ bottle.

๐ŸŽฒ The Bottom Line

Siena is the best wine list in Wichita, full stop โ€” and it would hold its own in most major cities on the strength of its Italian selections alone. If you're passing through Kansas and want a proper bottle of Barolo or a Super Tuscan with a good steak, this is your spot.
