Wingman Metrics
Three hundred and fifty wines sounds impressive until you realize about half of them are Napa Cabernet with a different label. The Capital Grille knows its audience — expense accounts and celebration dinners — and the list is built accordingly. It's polished, it's serious, and it will not surprise you.
California dominates from the first page to the last, with Napa Valley Cabernet as the clear headliner and Sonoma filling in the supporting cast. You'll find recognizable names like Rombauer, Orin Swift, J Vineyards, and Pahlmeyer's Jayson label, which is solid company but hardly adventurous. Old World drinkers and natural wine fans will feel like tourists — there's little here to pull you away from the West Coast comfort zone. That said, what's here is well-sourced and properly stored, so if California is your wheelhouse, you're in good hands.
Exact by-the-glass count isn't published, but The Capital Grille runs their annual Generous Pour program — six wines poured tableside with your dinner entrée for $45, which is the smartest way to drink here. The Generous Pour lineup rotates seasonally, which at least keeps things from getting completely stale. Outside that program, glass pours lean predictably toward crowd-pleasing California whites and reds.
The Generous Pour Tasting (6 wines) — $45
Six pours with a dinner entrée for $45 is the best math on this menu. At a restaurant where bottle markups run steep, spreading the cost across half a dozen wines is the move — especially if you're curious about what's in the current rotation.
The Language of Yes Central Coast 'Les Fruits Rouges' Rosé
In a list built around big Napa reds, this Central Coast rosé gets ignored by the steak crowd. That's a mistake. It's a lighter, more food-friendly option that holds its own against the richer seafood dishes and cuts through a butter sauce without breaking a sweat.
Jayson by Pahlmeyer 'The Bench' Atlas Peak Cabernet Sauvignon
Pahlmeyer is a fine producer, but the Jayson label is the entry-level line — and at steakhouse markup prices, you're paying flagship money for a wine that retails well under $50. The name sounds impressive on the menu; the value math does not hold up.
J Vineyards & Winery Russian River Valley Pinot Noir + Fresh seafood
When everyone else at the table orders a ribeye, the J Vineyards Pinot is your escape hatch. Russian River Pinot has the acidity and red fruit to complement fresh seafood without overwhelming it — a far better call than reaching for one of the Cabs that dominate this list.
✔️ The Bottom Line
The Capital Grille Jacksonville is a dependable, well-run wine program that plays it safe at every turn — if you came here for discovery, you're at the wrong restaurant. But if you came for a proper steak, a knowledgeable server, and a California red that won't embarrass you in front of a client, this place delivers.
