Wingman Metrics
Walking into The Bistro, the wine list reads exactly like the hotel it lives in — polished, comfortable, and built for guests who want a familiar name without any fuss. It's Napa Valley front and center, with a nod to Provence, and not much else to surprise you. Think less wine destination, more very decent hotel bar that happens to take wine seriously enough.
The list leans hard on California's greatest hits — Duckhorn Merlot, Jordan Cab, Cakebread Chardonnay — the kind of producers that show up on hotel lists because they're bankable and recognizable, not because anyone is pushing boundaries. A Pacific Northwest section adds mild breadth, and Whispering Angel covers the rosé crowd without breaking a sweat. What's missing is any real depth: no old world intrigue, no grower Champagne, no interesting outliers to reward the curious drinker. At 40–80 labels, there's enough to navigate dinner, but it's a list built for comfort, not discovery.
Ten to sixteen options by the glass is a respectable spread for a lobby bar, and the range covers the basics — white, red, rosé — without leaving anyone stranded. The glass pours clock in at $15–$22, which in Jackson Hole feels almost expected given the zip code, but still stings a bit when you're looking at accessible California producers. There's no evidence of regular rotation, so what you see is likely what you get season to season.
Duckhorn Vineyards Merlot — $18
Duckhorn is one of the few producers on this list that genuinely earns its reputation. At a glass price in the mid-range of the BTG spread, it's the safest bet for quality-to-dollar here — especially if you're settling in for steak frites and want something that won't disappoint.
Jordan Vineyard & Winery Cabernet Sauvignon
Jordan gets overlooked because it's been around forever and doesn't feel trendy, but this is a serious Sonoma Cab from a producer that's been quietly overdelivering for decades. Most people at this bar will order the Duckhorn — let them. Jordan is the smarter move.
Whispering Angel Rosé
Whispering Angel is fine wine, but it's also one of the most marked-up bottles in the country. At a hotel bar in Jackson Hole, you're paying a premium on top of a premium for a label that's more Instagram than substance. Order it if you must, but know what you're really buying.
Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay + Oysters from the raw bar
Cakebread's Chardonnay has enough richness to stand up alongside briny oysters without steamrolling them. The wine's restrained oak and bright acidity actually play well with the salt and minerality of a good raw bar spread — a classic combination that works here without overthinking it.
✔️ The Bottom Line
The Bistro is a reliable, low-risk wine stop inside a solid hotel — it won't blow your mind, but it won't embarrass you either. If you're already staying at The Cloudveil and want a decent glass before dinner, you're in fine hands; if you're driving across town specifically for the wine list, keep driving.
