First Impression
The Vista's wine list reads like a greatest hits album from a mid-2000s upscale chain — Cakebread, Duckhorn, a token Chianti — and it gets the job done without surprising anyone. Eighty-five labels sounds like a lot until you realize the menu is basically a tour of California with a brief Italian stopover. It's polished, it's safe, and it matches the room: elegant but not adventurous.
Selection Deep Dive
California and Napa dominate here, with Tuscany making a cameo appearance via the Antinori Peppoli Chianti Classico. There's no real detour into Burgundy, the Rhône, Spain, or anything that might raise an eyebrow — this list was clearly built to reassure rather than excite. If you know exactly what you want and it's a Napa Cab or a California Chard, you're fine. If you came hoping to discover something, keep looking.
By the Glass
Fourteen by-the-glass options is a respectable count for a restaurant at this level, and the $11–$18 price range keeps things accessible. The glass program pulls from the same California-forward playbook as the bottle list, so don't expect anything off the beaten path — but at least you're not stuck choosing between two generics.
Antinori Peppoli Chianti Classico 2022 — $52
Yes, 108% markup is objectively too much, but at $52 it's still the most interesting bottle on the list and the only real departure from the California-or-bust narrative. If you're eating the Filet Mignon and want something with more character than another Napa Cab, this is your move.
Antinori Peppoli Chianti Classico 2022
Most tables here are ordering the Duckhorn on autopilot. The Peppoli is the only wine that shows any personality — bright Sangiovese acidity, earthy backbone, and it actually cuts through rich Southern flavors better than anything Napa is offering on this list.
Duckhorn Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
At $145 on the menu versus $85 retail, you're paying $60 for the ambiance and the river view. Duckhorn is a perfectly fine wine, but it's also available at every Fine Dining Restaurant, USA location. The markup is steep, the story is tired, and your money works harder elsewhere on this list.
Antinori Peppoli Chianti Classico 2022 + Shrimp and Grits
Chianti Classico's acidity and savory edge work surprisingly well against the rich, buttery weight of shrimp and grits — the wine cuts through the fat, lifts the spice, and keeps the dish from feeling heavy. It's not the obvious call, which is exactly why it works.
Wednesday — Select bottles half price after 5pm
✔️ The Bottom Line
The Vista is a reliable pour in a polished setting — Wednesday's half-price bottle night is genuinely worth planning around, but the rest of the week you're paying steep markups for a list that plays it very, very safe. Send your friends here for the views and the Wednesday deal; manage expectations on everything else.
