You're in a strip of suburban Westchester and the wine list opens to Vega Sicilia Unico. That's a statement. Vida isn't playing the safe game of Pinot Grigio and Malbec β this is a focused, Spain-only list that earns its Wine Spectator Award of Excellence with actual conviction.
The 100-150 bottle list reads like a love letter to the Iberian Peninsula, covering Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Priorat, and Bierzo without wandering into safe-harbor territory. You've got classics like CVNE Imperial Rioja Reserva and Muga Prado Enea sitting alongside Alvaro Palacios L'Ermita β a Priorat icon that rarely shows up outside Manhattan wine bars. The MarquΓ©s de Murrieta Castillo Ygay adds historical depth, and the nod to Bodegas MencΓa from Bierzo shows someone actually cares about the lesser-traveled appellations. The only real gap is outside Spain: if a non-Iberian drinker wanders in, they're on their own.
Ten to sixteen pours is a solid spread for a restaurant this size, and the price range of $10β$18 keeps things accessible. We'd expect a few of the mid-tier Riojas to anchor the glass program β exactly the kind of daily-drinker that works well in a poured-by-the-glass format. No dedicated rotation or active by-the-glass program was evident, which is a small missed opportunity given the depth of the bottle list.
CVNE Imperial Rioja Reserva β $55
Imperial Reserva is a benchmark Rioja from one of the region's most consistent houses. At this price point, it's the kind of bottle that would run you $80+ at a Manhattan Spanish spot without blinking. Order it, drink it with the Cochinillo, thank us later.
Bodegas MencΓa from Bierzo
MencΓa from Bierzo is still flying under the radar for most American diners, which means it's priced like a secret. Think Pinot Noir energy β red fruit, savory grip, lighter frame β without the Burgundy markup. Most tables walk right past it. Don't be most tables.
Alvaro Palacios L'Ermita
L'Ermita is a genuinely great wine, no argument there. But at the top of this list's price ceiling, you're paying a premium for a bottle that's already priced to impress before the restaurant adds its margin. Save it for a special occasion or a better deal elsewhere β the rest of this list has more bang per dollar.
Muga Rioja Prado Enea + Cochinillo Asado
Prado Enea is a Gran Reserva built for the long table β aged, earthy, with enough structure to handle roasted suckling pig without getting swallowed by the fat. The wine's dried fruit and tobacco notes actually amplify the crispy skin and slow-cooked depth of the Cochinillo. This is the pairing the list was made for.
π² The Bottom Line
Vida is doing something genuinely rare in suburban New York: taking Spanish wine seriously in a room that doesn't feel like it's trying too hard. If you care about Iberian bottles and want to avoid the city markups, this is worth the drive.
