Wingman Metrics
You're here for the ribs, and the wine list knows it. A tight California-forward selection that doesn't pretend to be anything more than it is — comfort bottles for a comfort food restaurant. Nothing on this list is going to surprise you, but it also won't embarrass you.
The list runs about 20-40 bottles and leans heavily on familiar California names — Coppola, Beringer, Rodney Strong. There's no real attempt at regional diversity or anything beyond the Golden State, which makes sense for the crowd but leaves adventurous drinkers with nowhere to go. Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel carry the red side, both solid matches for smoked meat, but the depth stops there. If you want something outside mainstream Cali, bring your own or order a beer.
Six to twelve pours by the glass, almost certainly anchored by Coppola Diamond and Rodney Strong on the red side. The rotation appears fixed rather than seasonal, so don't expect anything new on a return visit. Functional for what this place is, but the glass program isn't the reason anyone's sitting down here.
Rodney Strong Cabernet Sauvignon — $12
Rodney Strong's Sonoma Cab is a legitimate bottle from a producer that actually cares about what goes in the glass. At a casual BBQ spot, getting a Sonoma County Cab by the glass at a reasonable pour price is the smart move on this list.
Beringer Main & Vine Zinfandel
Most people glance past Beringer and keep scrolling, but Zinfandel with barbecue is a genuinely great call — the jammy fruit and spice hold up to smoke and char better than a soft Merlot ever will. It's an entry-level wine doing exactly what it's supposed to do.
Coppola Diamond Collection Cabernet Sauvignon
The Coppola Diamond Cab is a grocery store staple you've seen at every chain restaurant for the last decade. The markup here eats into whatever value it normally offers. The Rodney Strong next to it is a better bottle for the same price category — don't default to the famous name.
Beringer Main & Vine Zinfandel + Baby Back Ribs
Zinfandel's bold fruit and peppery backbone are practically engineered for slow-cooked pork. The sweetness in Wood Ranch's BBQ sauce mirrors the jammy character in the Zin without one overwhelming the other.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Wood Ranch isn't a wine destination, but it's not trying to be — it's a well-run BBQ chain that gives you enough decent California red to get through a plate of ribs without embarrassment. Grab the Rodney Strong, order the tri tip, and call it a win.
