First Impression
The wine list at Anthony's Runway 84 reads like a greatest hits album from Napa Valley — the kind of list where you immediately know what you're getting before you've read a single label. For a classic Southern-Italian institution that's been feeding Fort Lauderdale for decades, this is a wine program built for guests who already know what they want and aren't here to be challenged.
Selection Deep Dive
California dominates from start to finish, and the roster is undeniably solid: Caymus, Silver Oak, Jordan, Stag's Leap, Far Niente, Rombauer — these are reliable names that a certain kind of diner loves, and Runway 84 clearly knows its crowd. There's a welcome nod to Italy with Antinori's Tignanello, Frescobaldi, and even Gaja Barbaresco showing up, which fits the Italian kitchen and adds some genuine prestige to the list. What's missing is any real sense of adventure — no smaller producers, no esoteric regions, no bottles that make you say 'huh, I didn't expect to see that here.' With 150–250 bottles in the cellar, there's enough range to satisfy most tables, but little to excite a wine-curious diner looking beyond the familiar.
By the Glass
The by-the-glass program runs 10–20 options, which is a reasonable spread for a restaurant of this size and style. Expect the predictable California suspects to dominate the pours, with a Chardonnay and a Cab anchoring both ends. Rotation appears minimal — this is a set-it-and-forget-it glass program, not one that'll surprise you on a return visit.
Jordan Winery Cabernet Sauvignon — $75
Jordan is a perennial crowd-pleaser that consistently punches above its price in restaurant settings — approachable, food-friendly, and less marked-up than the Caymus or Silver Oak at most spots like this. It's the smart move on a Napa-heavy list.
Gaja Barbaresco
Most tables at Runway 84 are going straight for the California Cabs, which means the Gaja Barbaresco sits quietly on the list waiting for someone who actually knows what it is. One of Italy's benchmark producers on a list this Napa-centric is genuinely unexpected — if you're eating pasta in a rich meat sauce, this is your bottle.
Caymus Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
Caymus is everywhere, and it's always marked up at restaurants that know its name recognition does the selling for them. You're paying a premium for the label, not the wine — and at this price point in a Fort Lauderdale steakhouse-adjacent setting, the markup is almost certainly punishing.
Antinori Tignanello + Pasta in hearty meat sauce
Tignanello — Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from one of Tuscany's great estates — was practically built for a bowl of rich, slow-cooked Italian meat sauce. It bridges the California-Italian divide on this list in a way nothing else here does.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Anthony's Runway 84 is a Fort Lauderdale institution that knows its audience and delivers exactly what it promises: big Napa names, old-school Italian comfort, and no surprises. Wine-forward diners may find the list a little safe, but the Italian highlights and the fresh Wine Spectator Award of Excellence signal that someone here is paying attention — even if the list isn't ready to take risks.
